HIGH POINT, N.C., July 11, 2014 – High Point University recently hosted a luncheon for Degrees Matter!, an initiative focused on increasing the number of adults with college degrees in Guilford County.
Dr. Dennis Carroll, HPU provost, and Akir Khan, HPU freshman success coach, are members of the Degrees Matter! community council. During the luncheon, members of the Future Talent Council advisory board continued the conversation of the Degrees Matter! initiative and discussed how to facilitate the educational degree process for more adults.
Degrees Matter! is a shared partnership between The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, Opportunity Greensboro and The United Way of Greater Greensboro. The initiative’s goal is to ensure at least 63 percent of Guilford County residents earn a post-secondary degree by 2025.
“It is an honor to represent High Point University in assisting our community with this critical adult education initiative,” said Khan during the luncheon. “We will help to facilitate the process for more adults in the Triad to reach their long-term goals and dreams of higher education. It is a win-win for our higher education institutions, degree-seeking adults and our community partners.”
