What is Degrees Matter?
Our goal is simple – help people who started a degree or certificate to come back to school and finish. We help by providing advice, contacts, support, and information on the many ways to enroll, to pay for, to succeed, and to finish school. We are a partnership between GTCC, UNCG, A&T, Guilford College, Greensboro College, High Point University, Opportunity Greensboro, The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, The United Way of Greensboro, and many other community partners along with Lumina Foundation.

What services do you offer?
We help by evaluating your situation. Based on your credits, financial aid status, career aspirations, and other factors we help you develop a plan to go back to school and meet your goals. We help by providing academic advising, assistance with applications and forms, direct contact with schools, information on in demand skills and careers in the Greater Greensboro area, and continued support as you make your way through school to meet your goals.
How do I transfer college credit?
Transferring college credit can be a challenging task. We can help by explaining the policies and procedures of local schools. We can help you reach out to the people and offices on various campuses to help make the transfer process smoother.
How do I apply for schools?
We can provide the links and contacts to Admissions offices across the area. If you have a special situation we can help determine how to find the best school for you.
How do I pay for classes?
It can be tough in a time of increasing costs to pay for school. This is especially true if you have the many obligations that most adults have. Also balancing work and school can be critical to meeting your goals. We can help by assessing your situation and finding the education opportunity that is a value for you. We can help with financial aid forms such as FAFSA, the Free Application for Financial Student Aid, and understanding the results of your application. We can also assist in identifying if your Employer provides tuition reimbursement or other education benefits. We can identify sources of scholarships and help with the scholarship applications and forms.
Is Degrees Matter for people who want to get a 4 year Bachelor’s Degree only?
Not at all, there are many education and training opportunities in the area and online. We can help find programs for associate’s degrees, certificates in a wide range of work and career fields, as well as bachelor’s and graduate degrees. We understand that there is no one right way to meet your education and career goals, we help you make the decision that’s just right for you.
